The Municipality of Bologna and the Islamic Community of Bologna (CIB) organize the seminar “the Islamic communities in Bologna, for an inclusion policy of Islam and Muslims” that will take place on the 4th of March. The seminar will be opened by the institutional greetings of the Mayor of Bologna, the Dean of the University of Bologna and the General Consul of Morocco, followed by the presentation of the outcomes of the research “For the inclusion of Islam and Muslims in Bologna” lead by Bartolomeo Conti, researcher of the European University Institute, and financed by Open Foundation Society and Fondazione del Monte di Bologna e Ravenna. The research, carried out between 2013 and 2015, studied the political and social debate on Islamic places of worship in Bologna and involved the Muslim communities (in particular the leaders of religious organisations and youths born and raised in Bologna who represent the natural link between the communities and the city). Besides portraying the presence of Muslims in Bologna, the research presents recommendations both to institutions and to the communities to proceed on the fruitful path of coexistence, integration and enhancement of diversity. The research outcomes will be commented by representatives of the local Muslim community and by academics, in order to contextualize the dialogue between institutions and Muslim communities in the wider national and European framework. Yassine Lafram, co-ordinator of the Islamic Community of Bologna, Rassmea Salah, representative of the young Muslims Association and Massimo Campanini, teacher of History of Islamic Countries at the University of Trento. The event will be hosted by Sumaya Abdel Qader, sociologist and writer. The event is organised in the framework of AMITIE CODE, a project on development and human rights education co-funded by the European Commission.
